Microsystems is the #1 server manufacturer in the world. The
reason? Reliability, dependability and scalability. All MMA
accounts are hosted Sun Sparc machines with the Solaris operating
system. |

Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Encryption
1) What is SSL
encryption?
As a feature of our Commerce and Enterprise accounts, MMA offers
secure socket layer (SSL), frequently referred to as Secure Server
encryption. This allows a capable browsers to communicate with
your hosting in a secure SSL encrypted session. It is often used
to securely transfer credit card numbers and other sensitive information.
2) What is the cost for this feature?
The cost for using the secure server is included in the monthly
fee for these accounts. However, to use SSL without a browser
warning, your company will need to purchase a certificate from
a certificate signing authority such as Verisign
or Thawte.
3) Can I order encryption after my server has been setup?
SSL can be added at any time to a hosting account.
4) How long does it take to setup encryption?
SSL requires processing of a digital certificate for your company
issued by Verisign. Currently, Verisign requires approximately
four weeks for processing of new certificates while Thawte typically
takes one week.
5) What additional information will MMA need to setup encryption?
To add encryption MMA needs to know the domain name associated
with the hosting account as well as the company name, city and
state. You will need to provide directly to your chosen Certificate
Authority the additional documentation they require for ordering
the digital certificate.
6) What does a digital certificate do?
A server uses a digital certificate to prove its authenticity.
The digital certificate established a legal relationship between
a legitimate company and their web site. For example, if you go
to Novell's web page and decrypt their digital certificate it
legally proves that this web site is authorized by Novell (or
whoever's name is actually in the digital certificate).
7) What information will I need to provide to the Certificate
Authority to get a certificate?
In order to purchase a certificate you must provide to the Certificate
Authority a signed copy of either a business license or articles
of incorporation. You must also supply a signed letter stating
your business' right to use the domain name for which you are
registering. The cost for a certificate varies depending on the
chosen authority. For more information visit Thawte
or Verisign.
8) What if I want additional licenses/certificates for other
web sites I support?
Only one certificate is supported per domain name and that certificate
can only be used with your own domain. If you wish to purchase
SSL service for other domains, you may add it to those accounts
separately.
9) How do I order a digital certificate?
In order to avoid potential problems it is best to coordinate
ordering certificates with MMA. Requests should be sent to ssl@mmaweb.net
for processing. Certificate processing takes a minimum
of 5 days. Please allow plenty of time for obtaining and installing
your certificate
10) How do I activate SSL?
Once your certificate request has been processed and your certificate
is installed, to access your site via SSL, simply change the URL
to read https instead of http.
